I think I am an Atheist (current JW)
by Robert7 ini am writing this group to discuss a topic that as you can imagine i really cannot discuss with too many people, at least as of now.
i am a married male jw, married to a another jw, and she's content with being a witness, and in fact, i don't want to change that if she's happy.. for a very brief history, i was baptized at 19, and have been a jw for 10 years.
fact is, i 'believed' in everything in as much as a lot of it 'made sense' and i was wrapped up in the whole thing.

Robert, I think your goals regarding the Sunday meeting is a good goal to pacify your family while keeping the elders at bay. You are not alone in this situation. Some have already commented here. I think you will be okay.
Re others comments about Agnostic.
I like being Agnostic, I can change my mind to fit the situation. i.e. I'm a non-Jw father whos son lives with his Jw mother and Jw stepfather for the last 10 years. I have survived well so far with regards to my son wanting to see me and him not wanting to be a Jw.
I agree Agnosticism is sitting on the fence. And it is a pain in the rear because it keeps people guessing what I truly believe and it also avoids anyone labelling me, including the Jws.
However going back to Roberts situation which has nothing to do with what religion or faith he should be or not. He should still "pretend" in being a Jw for the sake of him and his family. As we all know, the WTBS does not cater well for ex Jws.

I am glad to see you and your wife had a heart to heart, but do not reveal too much all at once like not going to meetings. The problem is see, if the Elders see her alone at KH they will start putting thier oar in and stirring things up for you both. So what you need to do is continue going to the meetings and afterwards very gently to her point out things which "don't seem right", very very gently and not tooo often. After much patience she may start to think about this herself and come to the same decision as you. When this happens the both of you have more of an influence over your children and it would be easier for them.
You really don't want to let the elders to start interfering while your back is turned. It's going to take a while and a lot of patience but I think it is doable.

Also there is such thing as being Agnostic. It means you don't believe or disbelieve. Would that help rather than saying Atheist?

Gosh, I really feel for you. This is going to be very difficult. Is your wife and kids really into this? What I am worried about is if they too into it they are going to shun you.
Or it could be that all your family feel the same about this as you, the question is how do you find out without arousing suspicion or them answering in a way to please you thinking that you are dedicated and so should they be.
Would going away for a long holiday somewhere as a family together help to ease the grip of the KH on your family?

Meditate! in a place like that. You can't even go for a dump in peace with all the speakers in the toilets.
